SAWDF signs MoU with AWEN, ALEAP to foster women entrepreneurship

The South Asian Women Development Forum (SAWDF) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Network (AWEN) of Philippines and Association of Lady Entrepreneurs of India (ALEAP) to foster women entrepreneurship and empowerment within the SAARC region..

The MoU to this effect was signed between Pramila Acharya Rijal, president of SAWDF and Kanneganti Rama Devi, president of ALEAP and Pacita Juan, chairperson of AWEN..

Acknowledged as one of the major achievements of the International Business Women’s Summit that concluded in the Capital today, SAWDF President Rijal informed that the agreement will focus on collaborative actions to establish a regional framework for contributing to the development and utilisation of professional resources and practices through the use of each other’s strengths, experiences and resources..

“The MoU intends to transfer technology, knowledge and skills among women entrepreneurs in the South Asian region. The sharing of entrepreneurial experiences and knowledge plays a crucial role to foster growth of women entrepreneurship,” she added..

Rijal also said that the two-day International Business Women’s Summit witnessed an exchange of entrepreneurial knowledge, experiences and technology among women entrepreneurs of more than a dozen nations. “Numerous business-to-business meetings among Asian women entrepreneurs also took place on the sidelines of the main event,” added Rijal..

As per Rijal, visiting women entrepreneurs of the Asian nations have basically expressed their interest in agriculture sector, tourism, textiles and food processing in Nepal..

Meanwhile, Padmasana Shakya, secretary of SAWDF, said that the event has given Nepali women entrepreneurs an opportunity to learn about international experiences and technologies used in SMEs and production of goods, which will help Nepali women entrepreneurs to scale-up their businesses..

“Nepal has immense export potential in products like textiles, tea, coffee, different agriculture products and tourism. An effective marketing of these products in the international market will have a significant impact on country’s economy,” said Shakya..
